Description and qualifications

About the project

The Ministry of Education in Guyana has requested the support of Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRVs) to serve as Library Officers. The Ministry of Education has rolled out the Libraries for Primary Schools program, which aims to not only provide students with access to a variety of books but also to encourage a culture of reading and learning. The Regional Education Departments are tasked to expand this program throughout the regions and they have identified a need for support to assess and train teachers and help implement functioning library systems.

The PCRVs will conduct reading sessions or literacy clubs with students and develop activities and programs to encourage a culture of reading. The PCRVs will also train teachers and student librarians in library management. The overall goal is to build creative ways to link the students to library and encourage a with the aim to inspire a lifelong passion for reading while developing critical thinking and creativity in students from a young age.

Required skills

Qualified candidates will have the following criteria:

• BA in Education, Library Sciences or other relevant field
• 2 or more years of relevant work experience

Language: There are no pre-requisite language requirements for this position.
