Description and qualifications

About the project

University students in Guinea are eager to learn English and basic computer skills with your support.

There is a shortage of English teachers in Guinea. Schools often focus on ensuring students pass exams to advance to the next grade. Theory and grammar are prioritized over utility and effective communication. Traditional teaching approaches offer limited bi-directional interactions and lack research-based practices to adequately support all learners, which can severely limit critical thinking skills and creativity.

As a Digital Learning Specialist, you will collaborate with the university staff to foster student-centered, practice-based learning experiences that develop the students’ English competencies and computer literacy. Together, you will implement a fun, participatory, and hands-on approach to learning that will inspire students to innovate, inspire, and lead their communities with a different way of thinking.

Training

After a two-week orientation on topics such as health and safety, you will move to an urban community where you will collaborate with the university staff. You will work together to assess the local needs and develop a work plan in line with their established goals.

Peace Corps/Guinea will equip you with French language resources and you may work with a local tutor who can help you build basic language skills to connect with the community.
