Country Welcome for Tanzania
Welcome to Peace Corps Tanzania!
If you have come to this page because you are considering Peace Corps service in Tanzania, I welcome you to apply to the most exciting, transformational experience you may ever have. I invite you to explore our website and social media channels to learn more about the incredible history of Peace Corps/Tanzania over the last 65 years and our current work.
For those of you who have already made that choice, I am delighted to extend a warm Karibu (welcome) on behalf of the Peace Corps/Tanzania team. By choosing to serve, you join a proud tradition of partnership, learning, and shared progress that has shaped communities and Volunteers alike for over six decades. Peace Corps/Tanzania’s history is rooted in a shared vision for what is possible by working with, living alongside, and tackling our host communities’ priority projects together.
Tanzania, with its rich cultural heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and spirit of resilience, offers both opportunities and challenges in the pursuit of sustainable development. As you embark on this journey, you will not only contribute to grassroots solutions but also gain invaluable skills and perspectives that will serve you—and the communities you work with—for a lifetime.
Whether teaching STEM—an area of national priority that helps equip students with the skills to shape their futures—or partnering with communities to promote health and well-being through life-saving health education, your service will strengthen local capacity and open doors to opportunity. Through collaboration, you will support students, teachers, and community members in building skills and knowledge that foster long-term success.
Beyond these roles, your service is about partnership. You will work alongside Tanzanians, learning as much as you teach, and contributing to solutions that are rooted in local strengths. These relationships, built on mutual understanding, reinforce global cooperation, strengthen America’s connections with the world, and promote stability through shared progress. The knowledge, adaptability, and leadership you develop here will not only serve you but will also contribute to a stronger, more engaged, and globally aware America.
Globally, the Peace Corps’ mission is to promote world peace and friendship, an audacious purpose that may at times feel further away than ever. It is the very same mission that motivated me to become a Peace Corps Volunteer many years ago in Benin and continues to motivate me to serve now as country director in Tanzania. Peace Corps Tanzania staff is composed of highly skilled, innovative, and empowered professionals who are dedicated to the development of their country and provide the best possible support to our communities, partners, and Volunteers.
Your Peace Corps service journey will challenge and inspire you, broadening your understanding of the world and your place within it. As you immerse yourself in new communities, embrace the relationships you build—they will be the foundation of your impact.
Once again, Karibu Tanzania! May your service be filled with purpose, growth, and the deep rewards of collaboration.
