Country Welcome for Samoa

Talofa!

The Peace Corps team in Samoa sends you a very warm Pacific Island welcome! We hope the information provided here sparks your interest in our work and inspires you to engage with us further—and perhaps even to serve in this extraordinary country. Samoa is known for the warmth of its people, the natural beauty, and the unique culture.

Since 1967, almost 2,000 volunteers have lived and served in Samoa as teachers and development specialists. In the last decade, alone, Volunteers have worked with over 600 teachers to support the education of almost 19,000 students. Currently, Volunteers support Samoa’s priorities of English literacy and community environmental sustainability.

Education Volunteers in Samoa play an important role by providing English literacy support as well as introducing various ways of teaching English reading and speaking. Volunteers develop teaching and learning resources, establish school libraries, tutor students after school and lead reading clubs or homework centers. Volunteers work alongside local educators to strengthen English language instruction, improve educational outcomes, and foster intercultural understanding.

Peace Corps Samoa’s Environment Volunteers are community-based and engage with community members to build the environmental adaption and resilience capacity of communities related to the sustainable management of coastal and marine ecosystems, forest and watershed habitats, and solid waste. Volunteers promote education to enable community members to be mindful of the natural resources in Samoa and assist in the sustainable management of natural resources and ecosystem services that promote economic, health and other benefits to the communities.

Peace Corps service is more than a chapter in your life—it’s a turning point. The experiences you gain and the relationships you form will shape your perspective for years to come. Approach this journey with openness and determination, and you’ll discover that the challenges you face are the very moments that define your growth and your ability to make a meaningful difference.

We invite you to join us in supporting Samoan communities and building meaningful connections through partnership and cultural exchange.
