Country Welcome for Colombia
Welcome to Peace Corps Colombia!
Colombia is a vibrant nation with a rich history and a warm, welcoming culture. We are excited to share insights into life as a Volunteer here, the impactful programs we support, and the incredible people you'll collaborate with during your service. We hope this resource answers many of your questions—happy browsing!
As a Peace Corps Volunteer in Colombia, you will serve as a development professional at the invitation of a Colombian government ministry or community organization, working alongside local partners to achieve their development goals. Your dedication and mutual respect will pave the way for acceptance, outstanding experiences, and lasting friendships.
Training is foundational to your success. Upon arrival, you'll engage in comprehensive preparation, including practical training in Spanish, technical orientation for your project assignment, and medical, safety, and intercultural guidance. This training is designed to help you adapt to life in Colombia and thrive in your role. You'll be expected to immerse yourself in your community, spending most of your time, including weekends, integrated into daily life while living on a modest stipend.
Relationships are critical for integration and success. Throughout your service, our dedicated Peace Corps Colombia staff will mentor, support, and challenge you to maximize your contributions to the Colombian people and their communities. Many Volunteers find that the personal connections they make here become cherished memories and lifelong bonds.
Our projects, endorsed by the Government of Colombia, focus on Teaching English as a Foreign Language and Community Economic Development. Volunteers collaborate with schools, small businesses, and organizations, fostering skills and knowledge. Living with local families, you'll integrate into the culture with the support of open hearts and homes.
If you're considering becoming a Peace Corps Volunteer, we encourage you to reflect on this opportunity and the commitment it entails. Please review our Welcome Book, your Volunteer Assignment Description (VAD), and the Volunteer Service Handbook to learn more about Colombia, your assignment, and Peace Corps policies. We invite you to join us in building a productive, peaceful, and healthy world for Colombian families and communities.
On behalf of the Peace Corps Colombia team, we look forward to welcoming you!
Sending you our very best regards,
Don Clark
