Are you a passionate educator for the visually impaired? The Ministry of Education in St. Vincent and the Grenadines is looking for support with a new special education program designed to strengthen national capacity to support visually impaired students.
In St. Vincent and the Grenadines, visually impaired students face many barriers, including the limited availability of adapted learning materials, assistive technologies, and tactile resources, as well as a shortage of teachers trained in visual impairment education. To address these challenges, the Ministry of Education is introducing a special education program designed to strengthen national capacity to support visually impaired students.
As Visual Impairment Support Teacher Trainer, you will collaborate with the special education staff to provide targeted interventions, such as teacher training in Braille and inclusive instructional strategies. Together, you will ensure that students with visual impairments are not segregated but instead have the opportunity to participate fully in mainstream classrooms alongside their peers.

Qualified candidates will have the following criteria:
Competitive candidates will have one or more of the following criteria:
Bachelor of Arts in Education or related field and at least 3 years of Special Education experience, or Master of Arts in Special Education or related field
OR
2 or more years of teaching experience
OR
2 or more years specialized experience in one of the following areas: ASL, speech therapy, occupational therapy, or working with the visually-impaired
Language: There are no pre-requisite language requirements for this position.

How you and the community will make an impact together:
Develop training and adaptation of school environment plans based on a needs assessment.
Plan learning and teaching programs for visually impaired students based on functional vision assessments.
Develop and facilitate trainings for teachers to provide direct instructional services for students.
Create appropriate teaching and learning resources to enhance lesson planning and delivery for visually impaired students.
You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities, such as after-school clubs or summer camps.
Volunteers live in houses or apartments and take a bus to their workplace. Some housing may be stand alone and some may be within family home structures equipped with essential appliances and furniture.

After 3-week orientation on topics such as health and safety, you will move to a new community where you will work within the Ministry of Education. You will work with the partner and your community to assess the local needs and develop a work plan in line with their established goals.
The official language is English, but Peace Corps St. Vincent and the Grenadines will equip you with Creole language resources and you may work with a local tutor who can help you build basic language skills to connect with the community.
No couples are accepted for this position.
