Country Welcome for Fiji
Bula (Hello)!
Thank you for your interest in learning more about the Peace Corps program in Fiji. I hope you enjoy exploring the information contained on these pages.
Since the program was established in 1968, Peace Corps Fiji has enjoyed strong partnerships with our stakeholders: the Government of Fiji, host communities, international partners, community organizations, and so many others who we work hand in hand with to achieve our mission of global peace and friendship. Over the years, Peace Corps Fiji has been active in Education, Youth, Environment, and Health programming.
Our current project, the Community Economic Empowerment Project (CEEP), was established in April 2023. Two-year Volunteers and transfer-extendees work alongside their Fijian counterparts in rural iTaukei villages to enhance the sustainable economic development of their communities.
The goal of CEEP is to enhance Fijian contributions to the economic advancement of their households and communities. Volunteers collaborate with their counterparts to accomplish the following objectives:
- Strengthen community groups’ capacities to use project design and management practices;
- Improve individuals’ (especially women and youth) capacities to implement income-generating activities; and
- Increase individuals’ capacities for personal money management.
In addition to our two-year Volunteer program, our shorter-term Peace Corps Response program engages skilled Volunteers to provide professional expertise to address the expressed priorities and needs of key partner ministries or international development organizations.
On behalf of the entire Peace Corps Fiji team, we look forward to you joining us as a Volunteer, partnering with us as a host community, or collaborating with us as a partner to address shared development goals.
Our Peace Corps Fiji Facebook page is the number one most followed page of all Peace Corps posts globally. Check it out at the following link to view: vignettes of service from current Volunteers, “throwback Thursday” posts of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and stories of their impact over the long term, and our viral “house tour” and “day in the life” videos in which Volunteers provide a window into what their deeply integrated village experiences are like: https://www.facebook.com/PeaceCorpsFiji
As much as this world has changed since Peace Corps was established by President Kennedy in 1961, the Volunteer experience in Fiji remains founded in mutual learning and support, and shared service and discovery!
Vinaka Vakalevu (Thank you very much)
