Serve Where You're Needed Most

Make the greatest impact as a Peace Corps Volunteer and serve where you’re needed most. For serving in certain high-need assignments, the Peace Corps is offering Volunteers added benefits through 2027.

Why serve where I’m needed most?

Accepting a high-need assignment has many benefits—supporting both the requests of host countries and your own personal growth and development.

The Peace Corps wants to make it easier for future Volunteers to accept our bold invitation to serve where they’re needed most. And, for answering the call, certain assignments will be temporarily eligible for added benefits.

What benefits are available for those who serve where needed most?

For some projects with departure dates through 2027, the Peace Corps is offering Volunteers additional benefits:

15-month service assignments

Mid-service break

  • A benefit never before offered: reconnect with family and friends halfway through your two-year assignment with 15 days of paid time off. This includes roundtrip airfare to the U.S. and a daily allowance for expenses.
  • Participating countries: Benin, Guinea, Madagascar, and Sierra Leone.

Increased readjustment allowance

  • Earn approximately $20,000 ($800 per month) pre-tax upon the completion of your assignment to help you take the next step after service. This is double the current readjustment stipend for two-year assignments.
  • Participating countries: Liberia, Malawi, Rwanda, Togo, and Uganda.

Are there other high-need assignments available?

Yes! There are other projects at Peace Corps posts around the world that are high need and need more applicants. Though these assignments are not eligible for our temporary additional benefits, Volunteers will still receive our standard benefits during service.
