Country Director Matthew Carlson

The Peace Corps team in Panama and I welcome you to our website. Here, we hope to express the dynamic diversity of this country with its natural beauty and resources, rich history, warm and friendly people, and opportunities to collaborate with the Panamanian people in achieving their development goals. We are delighted that you’ve taken the time to visit us, and we hope the information you find here sparks your interest in our work and inspires you to engage with us further—and perhaps even to serve in this extraordinary and unique country.

Since 1963, Peace Corps has been committed to fostering meaningful change, with over 3,800 Volunteers having dedicated two years of their lives to support a range of technical programs in Panama. Our success is built on strong partnerships with government authorities and local communities, allowing us to contribute to lasting impact.

Currently, we offer three distinct work sectors where Peace Corps Volunteers can contribute: Youth in Development, Agriculture, and Environment. Additionally, we have a specialized Peace Corps Response program which places Volunteers with partner institutions to develop their organizational capacity. Each of these areas provides unique opportunities to make a difference and experience the rich culture and beauty of Panama while supporting the dignity of the Panamanian people and their capacity to enhance their own lives.

Peace Corps Volunteers in Panama build and foster meaningful relationships with counterparts and community members during and even after their service. It is through these relationships that Volunteers have the opportunity to transform lives as well as be transformed, strengthen intercultural competence, and contribute to making a positive change.

Volunteers in Panama are supported by a highly qualified, motivated, and passionate team who are dedicated to facilitating processes and collaborative efforts to achieve development goals. As a team, we are committed to inspire, guide, and empower networks and local interest groups to define and implement local development projects.

We promote intercultural engagement and service and seek to support sustainable and quality impact. It is our shared commitment to cultivate an environment of trust where all ideas are welcome, and every staff member, counterpart, and Volunteer feels comfortable and empowered to raise concerns and have discussions about issues important to them and their success.

On behalf of the Peace Corps team in Panama, I welcome you to join us.
