Projects in Kosovo
Education
The Volunteers work in the schools of Kosovo as English teachers for two years, primarily in rural areas and always with a local Kosovar Counterpart. In addition to co-teaching with their Counterparts, they become involved in local projects based on the needs of their communities. These projects take many forms depending on the skills and experience of individual Volunteers, but the projects are always based on the expressed needs of the schools and the communities.Community Economic Development
Peace Corps Kosovo Community & Organizational Development (COD) project strengthens organizational capacity at the municipal level by bolstering community-led projects, and increasing youth and women’s employment skills in an effort to serve the neediest communities of Kosovo. By placing Volunteers in one of Kosovo’s municipalities to work among a triangle of institutions consisting of the local government and civil society which represent the interests of youth and women, each Volunteer helps to facilitate local collaboration to augment the organizations’ impact and achieve community-led development outcomes focusing on economic development and increased citizen engagement. Through this project, youth and women increase participation in civil society while attaining competitive employability skills.
