About El Salvador
Peace Corps El Salvador is a network of Volunteers, community members, host country partners, and staff, each of whom is defined by an enduring desire to learn and grow. Through service, members of the Peace Corps El Salvador network hone transferable skills that help them become and inspire the next generation of global leaders.
At the invitation of the government of El Salvador, Peace Corps began working in El Salvador in 1962. Since then, more than 2,300 Volunteers have worked alongside Salvadoran community members on locally prioritized projects that build relationships, promote knowledge exchange, and make a lasting and measurable impact.
Our community-driven projects have provided a wide range of assistance to rural families. Key project areas have included agriculture, health, community economic development, youth development, and municipal development.
Since returning to El Salvador in 2023, Peace Corps El Salvador continues to work alongside national level and community partners to focus on youth development and community economic development. Every year, 20 to 40 American Volunteers will integrate into and work with their host communities on grassroots development projects to foster world peace and friendship.
Peace Corps Volunteers represent the people of the United States, and we place a high priority on preparing Volunteers for service in El Salvador. All Volunteers receive 11 weeks of community-based training to enable them to serve with humility and intercultural competence. During their pre-service training, Volunteers receive intensive language, technical, intercultural, health, and safety training. Volunteers also receive additional in-service training while in service.
Peace Corps El Salvador is truly a unique, transformative experience that offers abundant challenges as well as opportunities for professional and personal growth, inspiration, and hopefully great joy and a sense of accomplishment.
Our team welcomes you!
