About Tanzania Education Corporation
Tanzania Education Corporation (TEC) is a Boston based NGO whose mission is to educate the future leaders of Tanzania. TEC has worked with Tumaini Junior School, a high performing K-7 primary school in the town of Karatu since 2009. Tumaini Junior School has consistently ranked in the top 1% of schools in the country. Tumaini Senior Secondary School is a six year (O and A levels) secondary school which opened in January, 2016. Located an hour from Arusha in Makuyuni village, this school has a focus on science and technology. TEC has developed a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) education program to enhance the standard government curriculum through computer programming and is expanding to introduce students to artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
Duties
Tanzania Education Corp is seeking an entrepreneurial technologist and STEM teacher for a secondary school located in Makuyuni, northern Tanzania. This position requires an independent and adventurous spirit with a desire to make a difference with the youth of rural Africa. Program Goals 1. Provide students with digital skills to help them be more competitive in their further education or employment 2. Provide coaching and instruction to school faculty in technology so they can adopt digital tools into day-to-day teaching 3. Introduce students to foundation concepts and projects in artificial intelligence Responsibilities -Teach computer classes from Form 1 to Form 3. Students start with basic computer and typing skills and progress in Forms 2 and 3 to writing actual code and learning programs such as Python -Oversee independent projects and skills training for students in Forms 4 and 5 -Oversee open computer lab for student driven independent projects, encouraging student engagement and creativity -Assist in the administration and maintenance of the school’s computer lab -Assist Tanzanian teachers to increase their technology skills -Apply knowledge of artificial intelligence to help modify the existing curriculum to introduce students to foundational concepts in artificial intelligence through lessons and student projects Position Details: -Start Date: July 10th 2026 (beginning of the next school term) -Commitment: One Year -On-campus staff housing provided -Monthly stipend (details shared during interview process) -Relevant Tanzanian Visa fees (entry and work) will be paid by TEC
Qualifications
-At least a bachelor’s degree -IT proficiency demonstrated through coursework or relevant work experience -Knowledge of programming languages such as HTML, JavaScript, Python or others -Knowledge of artificial intelligence applications in current computer science -Basic knowledge of computer hardware to maintain a school computer lab -Teaching experience and international experience in Africa are both highly desirable -Cultural sensitivity, the ability to learn from and work successfully in a different culture
