About Echo Hill Outdoor School
Echo Hill Outdoor School provides residential learning experiences designed to introduce and acclimate children to the outdoors and foster respect for and awareness of themselves, each other and their environment. Course areas include: Ecology of the Chesapeake Bay conducted on historic work boats, Swamp Ecology including Swamp Canoe and Swamp Walks; Group and Individual Development on our low and high element challenge course; Outdoor Skills in classes like Orienteering and Survival; and History and the Human Environment with classes such as Early American Studies and the “Mystery Tour”, an exploration of the cultural and historical landscape of Kent County. The program is flexible so as to meet the needs of a wide range of students, typically 3rd through 9th grade, from both public and private schools as well as college students and adults of all ages.
Duties
Key Responsibilities • Scheduling & Coordination o Coordinate with school administrators and teachers to schedule educational visits and ensure each school’s needs are met. o Develop and maintain an organized master schedule of all programs. • Custom Curriculum Development o Collaborate with school coordinators to tailor curricula that align with each group’s educational goals and requirements. o Ensure customized curriculum aligns with Echo Hill Outdoor School's mission and values. • Program Staff Management o Recruit, train, and supervise program staff, including educators and interns. o Foster a positive, team-oriented culture and provide ongoing support and professional development for staff. o Manage payroll and pay structure for staff within given budget • Operational Oversight o Oversee day-to-day operations of all programs, ensuring safety, quality, and smooth logistics. o Manage daily schedule o Conduct daily check-ins with staff and visiting teachers, manage resources, and address any operational challenges as they arise. • Quality Control & Evaluation o Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs, making adjustments as needed to maintain high standards. o Collect and analyze feedback from schools and participants to continuously improve programs.
Qualifications
Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Environmental Studies, Outdoor Education, or a related field. • Master’s degree and/or teacher certification preferred. • Minimum of 3 years of experience in program management, preferably in an outdoor or educational setting. • Proven ability to work effectively with schools and educational administrators. • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. • Knowledge of outdoor safety standards and best practices. • Passionate about environmental education and working with young people.
