About Tanzania Education Fund

We are a mission-driven non-profit dedicated to sustaining and growing the Margery Wolf Kuhn School in Tanzania, Africa and the attached medical clinic in Tanzania, Africa that transform lives through access to education and healthcare. Our work is guided by a vision of academic excellence, expanded health services, and thriving community partnerships.

To achieve this, we are seeking a passionate and strategic Executive Director to lead fundraising and organizational development efforts. History of Margery Wolf Kuhn Schools (MWK).

Origins (2000): The school began as Nianjema Schools in Bagamoyo, Tanzania, founded by Charles “Charlie” Sloan, a former Peace Corps volunteer who wanted to expand educational access for local children.

Funding: Its creation was made possible through community fundraising and a significant legacy gift from Sloan’s aunt, Margery Wolf Kuhn.

Name Change (2021): To honor Kuhn’s contribution and reduce confusion with a nearby government school, Nianjema Schools were renamed Margery Wolf Kuhn Schools (MWK).

Growth & Facilities: Over the years, MWK expanded to include pre-primary, primary, and secondary programs, adding classrooms, dormitories, science labs, and a community health clinic (the Charles Wolf Sloan Clinic).

Mission & Impact: MWK offers a well-rounded education including academics, arts, culture, and leadership training. It consistently ranks among the top schools in national exams, with students placing in the top 4% nationally in 2020.

Duties

Position Summary The Executive Director will serve as the primary leader, fundraiser, and spokesperson for the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be responsible for building sustainable revenue streams, expanding partnerships, and strengthening organizational capacity to meet our ambitious strategic goals. This position will be supported by an active and dedicated board of directors that will work hard to make the school successful. There is an existing donor base that is strong but needs to be grown and expanded.

Key Responsibilities Fundraising & Financial Sustainability

• Increase funding for school and clinic

• Expand donor base

• Oversee grant writing for capital improvement projects.

• Lead efforts to increase sponsorships to cover a greater percentage of student needs.

• Pilot innovative revenue-generating initiatives and partnership. Leadership & Governance

• Provide strategic leadership aligned with Board direction and organizational mission.

• Partner with the Board to strengthen their role in donor cultivation and outreach.

• Support clarity and communication around organizational integration decisions (TEF/TMF).

• Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and results-driven management. Day to Day Activities

• Receive Donations, Record Donors, Keep Master List, Write Thank you letters

• Organize wire transfers, coordinate with the Treasurer, Deposit Checks Community & Stakeholder Engagement

• Increase stakeholder engagement through annual surveys, progress updates, and digital communications.

• Serve as the chief ambassador of the organization in local and international communities.

• Maintain strong relationships with the school and clinic.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Proven track record in non-profit fundraising, including major gifts, grants, donor cultivation, and campaigns.

• Experience in non-profit management or funding management, donor relations, or development leadership.

• Strong skills in communication, relationship building, and public speaking.

• Visionary leadership with ability to align programs with strategic goals.

• Passion for advancing education, healthcare, and community empowerment. Compensation & Benefits

• This is a part-time position (20-24 hours) with a competitive base salary depending on experience.
