The Peace Corps Enters Strategic Partnership with Reach the World
WASHINGTON – Today, the Peace Corps announced the signing of a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Reach the World (RTW), an organization dedicated to leveraging widely available technology to ensure that all Americans have access to positive, personal experiences abroad. The strategic partnership will extend the reach and engagement of returned Peace Corps volunteers (RPCVs) in service of the Peace Corps’ Third Goal to promote a better understanding of other nations on the part of Americans.
As part of the new collaboration, RPCVs will work together with RTW on two initiatives:
- The Traveler Program: RPCVs will be matched with American K-12 classrooms and share their experiences serving abroad through media (written stories, pictures, and videos), which are published on Reach the World’s website. Matches typically last six to 12 weeks and will be conducted using RTW’s virtual exchange platform.
- Meet the World Program: RPCVs will volunteer to visit a K-12 classroom in the U.S., either in-person or virtually, to share their experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
Interested educators can sign up for free, and RPCVs can apply to be a Reach the World traveler here.
This is the first MOU the Peace Corps has signed with Reach the World.

About the Peace Corps: The Peace Corps is an international service network of volunteers, community members, host country partners and staff who are driven by the agency’s mission of world peace and friendship. At the invitation of governments around the world, Peace Corps volunteers work alongside community members on locally-prioritized projects in the areas of education, health, environment, agriculture, community economic development and youth development. Through service, members of the Peace Corps network develop transferable skills and hone intercultural competencies that position them to be the next generation of global leaders. Since President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps in 1961, more than 240,000 Americans have served in 142 countries worldwide. About Reach the World: Reach the World (RTW) makes the benefits of travel accessible to classrooms, inspiring students to become curious, confident global citizens. Enabled by an innovative digital platform, classrooms and volunteer travelers explore the world together. RTW partners with the Institute of International Education and a growing number of campuses nationwide to recruit a diverse and talented pipeline of volunteer travelers abroad on academic study or service programs. By engaging in these digital exchange relationships, K-12 youth and young adults develop the context, competence, and confidence needed for responsible citizenship in a complex, diverse, and rapidly-changing world. www.reachtheworld.org
