Peace Corps and the National Peace Corps Association Strengthen Ties through New Partnership

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 24, 2014 – Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet and National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) President Glenn Blumhorst recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen the organizations’ cooperation in support of Peace Corps’ mission. The two organizations will work to implement initiatives that promote a better understanding among Americans of other people and cultures around the world and educate the public on Peace Corps programs and service opportunities. The memorandum was signed during the NPCA’s annual Peace Corps Connect conference in Nashville, Tenn.

“This MOU reaffirms the important relationship between our two organizations,” Hessler-Radelet said at the signing. “We have undertaken a real effort to strengthen the ties between Peace Corps and the National Peace Corps Association, and I’m proud of the progress we’ve made together.”

“It’s both logical and strategic that the NPCA and the Peace Corps have a close and collaborative relationship,” said NPCA President Glenn Blumhorst. “This MOU frames our long-term plans and strategies to achieve common objectives – it’s a win-win for the Peace Corps community.”

The National Peace Corps Association and the Peace Corps have previously collaborated informally through meetings, presentations, and participation in events and initiatives around efforts such as the Peace Corps’ 50th anniversary celebrations and annual returned volunteer career conferences held around the country. The NPCA also provides its magazine, Worldview, to currently serving volunteers, and has provided 1,000 tablets to further volunteers’ work in the field.

With more than 50,000 individual members and more than 140 member groups, the NPCA is the leading nonprofit alumni organization supporting returned Peace Corps volunteers and the Peace Corps community. The NPCA and its member groups produce global education programs and advocacy campaigns, and provide community, national and international services that build on the Peace Corps experience.
