About this program

The Yale School of Environment offers four master's degree programs that prepare students for professional work or research in forestry and environmental management. Areas of study include, but are not limited to: Ecosystem Conservation and Management; Forestry, Forest Science and Forest Management; Business and the Environment; Climate Science, Adaptation and Mitigation; Energy and the Environment; Environmental Policy Analysis; Human Dimensions of Environmental Management; Sustainable Land Management; Sustainable Urban and Industrial Systems; and Water Resources Management. Students here choose from a broad selection of courses at YSE and at other graduate schools at the University and students with well-defined cross-disciplinary interests can apply for joint degrees at nine different schools. In addition, students can enrich their studies by attending lectures, seminars, films and conferences, and by joining student groups suited to their interests.

Cost savings details

The fellowship that we offer will cover $12,502.50 per year. In addition, all scholars are eligible to apply for the need-based scholarship money. Most students receive need-based scholarship money ranging from $5,000 to $30,000 per year.

Internship

All Master's of Environmental Management and Master's of Forestry students are required to complete a summer internship between the two years of study. There is no one typical internship as students generally have a wide array of interests and our Career Development Office is skilled at helping students find the right summer internship experience. Master's of Environmental Science and Forest Science students spend the summer conducting their research and data collection rather than in a formal internship. Research projects are self-created under the guidance of a faculty advisor. As a school with a very global focus, we frequently have students complete their internships and research all over the world.
