Through service-learning and clinical experiences, you’ll have opportunities to: improve people’s lives in communities affected by health disparities and advance social justice; build upon skills and expertise that were developed through Peace Corps service; and advance the Peace Corps’ third goal: bringing the world back home.
- As a Peace Corps Coverdell Fellow, you’ll receive a $10,000 scholarship to use toward tuition and fees for the duration of your nursing program.
- Your Peace Corps experience strengthens your application, and you’ll receive specialized career mentoring from our Coverdell Fellows Program advisor.
- You can connect to other Coverdell Fellows from the University of Maryland School of Social Work and be immersed in an exciting inter-professional health care learning environment.
- You'll have opportunities to become involved in community programs throughout the Baltimore metropolitan area and serve communities during clinical experiences.
- You'll take courses or seminars focused on community engagement and population health and social justice and participate in service-learning activities in local Baltimore communities.

All programs: official transcripts from each institution attended, essay, resume, letters of recommendations, application for in-state residency, application fee, foreign coursework evaluation (if applicable). BSN program: Test of Essential Academic Skills
Admissions process
You'll indicate your interest in the Coverdell Fellows Program on your application to the University of Maryland School of Nursing. You'll also need to submit an essay expressing your interest and participate in an interview (by phone or in person) with the program advisor.

Internship
The internship allows you to volunteer in a Baltimore community-based organization for the duration of your program. Your internship hours and schedule will be determined in collaboration with the site and will be individualized for you.
Other opportunities
Work-study may be available. Students may also obtain student nurse internships at the University of Maryland Medical Center once eligible.
