About this program

The M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations is a 45 credit degree program that can be completed entirely on campus, or in a hybrid format, depending upon the customization options selected. Thirteen functional and regional specializations, as well as a professional internship, allow candidates to tailor their course of study to meet individual interests and goals.

The School's dedicated internship office supports students career development through one-on-one advising, workshops, alumni mentorship, and guidance with competitive internship, fellowship and placement opportunities in public service, business, law, and the nonprofit sector.

Through a unique alliance with the United Nations Association of the USA, the School offers students a wide range of academic and professional benefits, including a UN Summer Program, Semester in Washington, D.C., the opportunity to serve as youth representatives to the UN, contribute to research, participate in special events featuring high-level officials and more.

Admissions process

In order to be considered for a Coverdell fellowship, applicants apply for fall admission to the M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations program by May 1. Candidates must complete Seton Hall's electronic graduate application and must include one paragraph in their personal statement of interest indicating top qualities that make them strong Coverdell Fellow candidates. In addition to the required admissions documents, applicants must attach a copy of their Peace Corps DOS in the online application or email it to [email protected].

Cost savings details

The Coverdell scholarship covers 50% tuition.

The $75 application fee is waived.

Internship

Fellows will support the Peace Corps’ mission by completing a required internship through the School's partnership with local service communities.

Placements include, but are not limited to, positions with the American Red Cross of Essex County and the International Rescue Committee in Elizabeth, NJ, among others. Fellows are welcome to research additional sites that may be more applicable to their career aspirations.

The School's dedicated Office of Internships and Career Development is available to provide advisement and resources to assist Fellows in identifying and selecting an internship site.

Jobs for alumni

Alumni apply their skills and knowledge across a variety of sectors. Our most recent data indicates that 22% are employed in the public sector, 38% in the nonprofit, and 40% in the private sector. Examples of some of the employers of our recent graduates include: the U.S. Department of State, the EU Delegation to the United Nations, the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, Amnesty International USA, the NGO Working Group on the Security Council, Booz Allen Hamilton, JP Morgan Chase, and BuzzFeed.

Nontraditional options

MA candidates may take advantage of our on campus and online courses. In addition students may participate in international seminars, the Semester in Washington DC program and UN Summer Intensive program in New York City. To qualify for the Coverdell Fellowship, students must be enrolled full-time.
