As an MPH student at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, you will be joining the world's largest, oldest, and 1# ranked school of public health, providing you with unparalleled opportunities that will complement and expand on your Peace Corps service.

Coverdell Fellows receive one-on-one support from faculty and staff to provide you with academic and professional advancement. Fellows at BSPH will receive personalized career mentoring. Additionally, the MPH Program team serves as a liaison to assist Coverdell Students in connecting with our highly esteemed alumni and faculty.

Through rigorous coursework, meaningful community engagement, and personalized mentoring from world-renowned faculty, Coverdell Fellows graduate from the MPH Program to position them to become leading public health professionals.

Fellowships awarded per year (average): All RPCVs admitted to the full-time format of the MPH are awarded a scholarship.

Application requirements

Admissions requirements are the same for both full-time and part-time/online students:

The following college-level courses are required of all applicants:
- One math course (e.g. calculus, algebra, or statistics)
- One biology course
- One health-related science (e.g. physiology, nutrition, or anatomy) or a second biology course
Applicants must have two years of post-baccalaureate, professional (i.e., full-time, paid) health-related work experience OR a doctoral degree in a field underlying public health. This requirement may be waived for applicants to the MPH combined degree programs (with the exception of the MPH/MBA dual degree program with the Carey Business School).
Applicants from countries where English is not the official language must submit official scores of either the TOEFL or IELTS. Please note that BSPH requires a minimum TOEFL score of 100 or IELTS score of 7.0. BSPH will also accept test scores from the Duolingo English Test with a minimum composite score of 120 and the Pearson Test for English with a minimum score of 68.

Admissions process

Applicants can select “Returned Peace Corps Volunteer” option in SOPHAS application. If accepted to the MPH program, applicants will be considered for the Coverdell Fellowship.

All BSPH Coverdell Students receive a minimum $20,000 tuition scholarship but are considered for additional funding as well.

Internship

MPH students are required to complete a practicum as part of their degree program. A Fellow either is placed in an internship with a community-based organization through SOURCE or identifies another service activity in Baltimore or another location during the year.
