Description

Students in a remote area must walk long distances to reach the only primary school available. On certain days, classes end early, and because there is no cafeteria on the school grounds, children must travel back home for lunch. Given their young age and the lengthy journey, they return to school tired, making it difficult to stay focused during afternoon lessons. This project seeks to address these challenging circumstances by helping students return to class rested and ready to learn.

The community has collaborated on a three-part solution involving a kitchen and an adjacent kitchen garden on school property. Support funds will cover the construction of a small kitchen and the purchase of essential cooking utensils. Parents have volunteered to prepare nutritious lunches so students can return to class well-fed and better equipped to receive a high-quality education. Additional funds will establish a garden with a varied set of crops and vegetables. Part of the harvest will be used in student meals, while the remainder will be sold to help finance future meals.

The garden will also act as a hands-on learning space where students can practice growing food and develop a strong foundation in responsible environmental care. By helping children learn to cultivate their own food, enhancing their school experience, promoting environmental awareness, improving local food security, and contributing to the school’s income, the community aims to become more resilient overall.
