Women's Garden Development

Project by Chloe E., Volunteer from North Carolina
Senegal Agriculture

Description

The goal of this project is to strengthen food security by offering opportunities for women interested in vegetable gardening. A central aim is to establish a protected space that can support a women’s gardening group throughout the year. With grant support, the group will be able to cultivate vegetables for income or home use in every season.

Participants will engage in strengthening activities focused on vegetable and tree nursery preparation, out‑planting, and ongoing maintenance. They will also gain practical knowledge in integrated pest and weed management and the use of organic soil amendments. To further support food security, the project will place additional focus on fruit trees such as mango, papaya, and citrus.

The women’s gardening group will guide these efforts with support from experienced local gardeners to help ensure long-term success. By creating this dedicated garden space, the project will enhance the quality and variety of vegetables available in the community while supporting women in generating income for their households.
