Water for All: Water Distribution Initiative

Project by Azya H., Volunteer from Massachusetts
Ghana Drinking Water and Sanitation

Description

This initiative seeks to improve fair, reliable access to safe water by strengthening and extending an existing community distribution system. The effort focuses on a community‑identified priority to ensure that water from a newly established borehole reaches households throughout both the main settlement and nearby areas. Although the borehole offers a dependable source, many residents still face long travel distances and limited access points.

To address these challenges, the project will expand the piping network to sections that currently lack adequate coverage. Its objectives are to increase the number of functional water points, shorten the distance residents must travel to collect water, and enhance the overall reliability and efficiency of water delivery. These improvements are expected to ease pressure on existing access points and support more consistent daily access to safe water.

The initiative anticipates outcomes including broader distribution coverage, improved system performance, and strengthened community ability to manage and maintain the infrastructure. Community members will be directly involved in implementation, ongoing maintenance, local contributions, oversight, and supporting long‑term sustainability.
