Community Health Center Rehab
Description
This project will support the rehabilitation of a healthcare facility in rural eastern areas of the country, serving 12 catchments with more than 13,000 residents, including 3,000 children under five. The project will strengthen the facility through installation of a water system and light system, repairs to equipment and roofing, and fresh paint, creating a cleaner, safer, and more functional environment for patients and staff. These improvements aim to strengthen the facility’s ability to host health talks in a sanitary setting, support more accurate medical procedures through reliable lighting, and improve hygiene across all service areas, especially in the labor room.
Following a community meeting using a Participatory Analysis for Community Action assessment, local residents identified rehabilitation as their priority, viewing it as a critical opportunity to make the facility safer for patients, particularly pregnant women and children. This initiative is fully driven by the community, with key stakeholders committing to provide 25 percent of the required contribution through labor, food, and materials. Their early efforts, including identifying contractors, suppliers, and transport routes, reflect a strong sense of urgency and ownership.
Once completed, the rehabilitation will encourage more people to seek medical care and create space for staff to guide the community on important health topics. In addition to future educational benefits, the project will allow community members to strengthen trade skills as they participate directly in the rehabilitation work.
