Community Garden Facility
Description
The overarching goal of this grant is to establish a 4.5‑inch borehole well, a five‑kiloliter storage tank, a one‑hectare perimeter fence, and a piping system to supply a community garden. The project aims to increase the range of nutritious foods available, expand income‑earning opportunities for community members through produce, and train locals in effective and sustainable gardening practices. Together, these efforts are expected to improve nutrition, strengthen economic opportunities for families—especially women—and support a healthier natural environment.
Funding these activities will strengthen the community by giving residents a reliable place to use and monetize their agricultural skills throughout the year. Community members are already experienced farmers with the ability to support themselves; however, they lack the natural resources needed to benefit from these skills during the dry season.
Project sustainability will be supported through multiple measures. Dues collected by the Garden Committee will be saved for repairs if essential infrastructure is damaged. In addition, continued Volunteer support will provide ongoing guidance and training during the garden’s early stages of operation.
