Community Garden Development

Project by Conor K., Volunteer from Pennsylvania
The Gambia Agriculture

Description

Community gardens often serve as central hubs of activity and support, especially in rural areas where income sources and opportunities for social growth can be limited. Completing this garden will help stabilize and broaden income streams for community members while creating a dedicated space for additional training and collective growth that supports long-term benefits.

This project focuses primarily on finishing the garden wall, which is currently only half built. Secondary goals include adding more water taps and providing essential gardening tools. Once completed, the garden will offer an additional 9.04 acres of arable land, greatly expanding opportunities for community members to strengthen skills and increase earnings.

The need for this project has been consistently identified by the local development committee and the women’s club, who see it as a critical challenge that can be addressed with further support. They believe completion of the garden will open new economic pathways for the community and, most importantly, support ongoing development and growth well into the future.
