Integrated Computer Lab and Internet Access

Project by Miles S., Volunteer from New York
Kenya Education Technology

Description

The school has a strong record of academic success, with learners regularly progressing to university and recently achieving its first-ever top overall score on national exams. The staff are enthusiastic, and the learning culture is well established. However, graduates face a significant disadvantage after completing their studies because they lack basic computer literacy, limiting their opportunities no matter how hard they have worked.

To address this challenge, the school plans to construct and operate a computer lab that will strengthen students’ skills and create a more up‑to‑date learning environment. This effort is intended to ensure that students are better prepared for whatever paths they pursue next. Alongside the lab, the school aims to develop a community-focused center offering digital services. Because the surrounding area lacks a true commercial hub, residents currently incur high costs to access these services elsewhere. With the school centrally located, it can offer more convenient access at a fair price while generating a modest stream of revenue for school needs.

This initiative has been in motion for years, and the community is ready to help bring it to completion. Residents understand the value of improved digital access and are eager to contribute in whatever ways they can. With strong support and shared commitment, the project is well positioned to become a meaningful resource for both students and the wider community.
