Secondary School Computer Lab

Project by Isaac S., Volunteer from Maryland
Kenya Education

Description

This computer laboratory project aims to create a fully equipped learning space that expands access to technology and modern digital instruction. Community stakeholder discussions highlighted the urgent need for improved technological resources, as limited infrastructure has restricted effective teaching and student preparation for further studies and future employment. With digital tools increasingly integrated into national education requirements, the project seeks to strengthen instructional delivery and provide students with essential skills for academic and professional success.

The initiative focuses on practical digital competencies, including computer literacy, research skills, communication, and responsible use of online resources. Teachers will receive training to strengthen effective instruction across subjects. Integrating technology into daily lessons will improve learning experiences, especially in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through virtual experiments and expanded educational content. A solar-powered backup system will support consistent access by reducing disruptions caused by unreliable electricity.

Expected outcomes include higher academic achievement, stronger digital proficiency, and improved readiness for advanced education and workforce demands. Beyond the classroom, the project supports knowledge transfer to homes and offers potential opportunities for community-based training. These efforts encourage safer, more productive use of digital tools and expand pathways for local economic growth. Overall, the project addresses a critical resource gap while promoting long-term development through sustainable and reliable access to technology for students, women, girls, and the broader community.
