Secondary School Solar Power
Description
Frequent power outages interrupt essential academic and administrative activities at secondary schools in Kenya. Unreliable lighting hinders students’ ability to study effectively and makes it difficult for teachers to prepare examinations on schedule. In addition, poorly lit grounds present safety concerns for students, staff, girls, and women who rely on secure and predictable access to school facilities.
This project proposes installing a solar power system to provide a steady and dependable energy source. By reducing reliance on the national grid, the school will gain consistent access to electricity for classroom lighting, examination preparation, and outdoor security lighting. Reliable power in operational areas such as the kitchen will also help maintain uninterrupted daily functions. These improvements will strengthen the school’s ability to operate efficiently and create conditions that support learning and well‑being.
The initiative reflects a priority raised by the school community, who identified erratic power as a major obstacle to both education and safety. A sustainable energy solution will promote a stable environment where students can focus on learning and staff can carry out responsibilities without delays or disruptions. This project ultimately aims to support a safer, more effective, and more predictable learning setting for everyone on campus.
