Improving Computer Lab Infrastructure
Description
This project seeks to expand digital literacy and computer access at a rural senior secondary school by converting an underused library space into a fully equipped computer lab. The updated national curriculum increasingly requires students to use online materials and develop technology skills, yet most learners lack access to computers both at home and on campus. The community identified this gap as its highest development priority and has committed to providing forty‑five computers and completing portions of the renovation as a sign of local ownership.
A major barrier for schools in remote areas is inconsistent electricity, which can prevent computer labs from functioning for long periods. To ensure steady access, the project will install a solar backup system capable of supporting all devices during outages. Grant funding will also provide security features to protect equipment, along with a projector, a smart television, and laptops dedicated to teacher instruction and preparation. With community‑supplied computers and these added resources, the lab will serve hundreds of students each term, offering secure, reliable, and modern facilities for learning.
Sustaining long-term benefits is an essential part of the effort. Teachers will strengthen their own digital literacy skills and learn to integrate technology into everyday lessons. Students and community members will participate in a foundational computer training program, gaining confidence to use the lab effectively and maintain a strong environment for digital learning. The project will also create opportunities for girls and women to access training and expand their technology skills.
