JUMP Numeracy and Literacy Area

Description

The JUMP Literacy and Numeracy Play Area responds to a community‑identified need for a safe, organized outdoor space that supports learning and student well-being. The school serves about 150 children but operates with minimal funding, leaving primary students with only an uneven grass field that often leads to disorganized activities and injuries. The community selected this project to transform an underused area into a colorful, secure zone that encourages learning through play beyond traditional classroom walls.

By the end of Term 1, December 2026, the community will complete a new play structure with a slide, monkey bars, and a swing set, alongside a painted concrete surface featuring interactive math and phonics activities. This upgraded environment will offer immediate benefits by guiding movement-based learning, reducing risky behaviors, and giving local children a safe place to play after hours. The project strengthens local engagement through the volunteer work of teachers, parents, and skilled alumni welders and painters.

By Term 3, June 2027, after a full year of use, the space is expected to support measurable growth in foundational skills. Students will improve letter-sound understanding, sight recognition, and word family proficiency, while also mastering basic counting and number patterns through games that require active participation. This approach strengthens long-term community stewardship and establishes a sustainable model for maintaining the space.
