Project by Corey H., Volunteer from California
El Salvador Business Development

Description

This project aims to strengthen local skills and improve access in a rural, remote community. The primary objective is to provide training that helps community members increase their economic opportunities. Participants will take part in sessions on bookkeeping, basic business skills, and English for tourism. A community savings group will also be formed to support the long‑term goal of creating a joint tourism cooperative.

Alongside these trainings, the project will improve several key roads that connect the community to surrounding areas. Because the community is difficult to reach, local businesses struggle to transport goods, and visitors often hire guides from outside the area. By strengthening roads that are essential for entering and leaving the community, local business owners will be able to move their products more easily and attract new customers. With improved access, community members who know nearby points of interest will have better opportunities to work as guides and meet visitor demand.

Community members will contribute labor and materials for portions of the road improvements. This involvement supports the community’s priority to improve access while strengthening skills in areas such as construction and project planning. Together, the upgraded infrastructure and new trainings are expected to increase income‑generating opportunities, support the growth of local businesses, and create a foundation for sustainable tourism activities.
