Science Lab Equipment

Project by Benjamin L., Volunteer from Connecticut
Indonesia Education

Description

Science comes alive through experiments, and some of the strongest memories from high school come from hands‑on activities, tangible reactions, and observing living organisms. Teachers in the community set clear goals to make this possible again: creating a more active, collaborative, contextual, and English‑integrated learning environment. Their objectives focus on increasing student engagement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and strengthening the confidence of both students and teachers when using real scientific instruments in English.

To support these strengthening efforts, the project will fund the purchase of essential equipment for biology, physics, and chemistry labs, including microscopes, inertia physics kits, and chemicals. Students have gone years without meaningful laboratory experience due to limited resources, and this investment aims to change that. Safety training for teachers will accompany the equipment to ensure long‑term success. More than 1,200 teachers and students are eager for the lasting benefits expected from this effort.

Anticipated outcomes include improved student engagement, a stronger culture of collaborative teaching, increased confidence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and English, and student‑driven projects planned and completed in English. Teachers remain committed to this work, and the community has pledged financial support for the partnership. The long‑term impact on future doctors, lecturers, and leaders who aspire to excel in English and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics will be immeasurable.
