Environmental Mural Takeover

Project by Annabelle G., Volunteer from Virginia
Timor-Leste Environment

Description

A new mural in a community home to nesting sea turtles will invite students and residents to explore environmental responsibility through creativity. This effort responds to a locally identified priority and aims to raise awareness about how pollution and other environmental challenges affect everyone. Opportunities to learn about these issues have been limited, and this project offers a way for both students and residents to deepen their understanding.

To support this goal, students have been receiving lessons from a local sea turtle hatchery focused on trash management and environmental protection. Using what they have learned, they will create an interdisciplinary mural featuring a world map, plants, animals, and other key elements that reflect their lessons. This project seeks funding to obtain the materials and supplies needed to bring the mural to life.

The finished artwork will strengthen the community by transforming a public space and encouraging environmental responsibility. It will also bring people together, creating opportunities for conversation, connection, and exploration.
