Bringing Back Computers
Description
This project will restore a high school computer lab to full functionality, providing a vital learning resource for young people to strengthen skills needed for future professional and social roles in Timor-Leste. The lab had previously been identified by the school and the broader community as a priority, was funded, and operated successfully until severe weather damaged the computers and equipment. The school and community remain committed to improving digital literacy and have requested support to restore this important local asset.
Once operational, the lab will offer hands-on training in essential skills such as office software and preventative computer maintenance for an estimated 670 young people each year. This will strengthen effective skill transfer from dedicated local trainers and ensure students graduate prepared for roles in offices, businesses, and social organizations that contribute to the country’s development.
Following the unexpected damage, the teachers and administration have requested assistance for the initial investment needed to purchase computers and a projector, maximizing classroom access to limited resources. With this initial support, the school administration and teachers have committed to using annual discretionary funds for ongoing maintenance, ensuring the computer lab can operate sustainably into the future.
