Expanding Digital Access
Description
A public secondary school serving roughly two hundred students and twenty faculty members, operates a computer laboratory with thirteen functional desktop computers but lacks internet access. This limitation prevents full participation in the ASEAN‑Australia School Bridge Program, an international exchange initiative connecting secondary schools across the Asia‑Pacific region. At present, all virtual meetings depend on a single volunteer’s mobile hotspot, and students cannot independently use the program’s online portal. Guided by the school’s Director and information technology staff, the community identified reliable high‑speed connectivity as its most urgent infrastructure need.
This project will install a Starlink satellite system, allowing students and faculty to fully engage in program activities. A dedicated laptop equipped with a built‑in camera will support conference‑style sessions with partner schools in Australia and facilitate faculty‑led training sessions across the campus.
In addition to installation, the information technology staff will design and deliver structured digital literacy courses for students and faculty. These courses will strengthen foundational skills in internet use, Microsoft Office tools, online research, and preparation of scholarships and curriculum vitae. To ensure long‑term sustainability, the school will offer paid community access to the computer laboratory and internet service, creating recurring revenue to support future operational needs.
