Small-Scale Beekeeping for Women
Description
This grant seeks to promote beekeeping as both a means of subsistence farming and a pathway for income generation. Although this activity has shown strong potential in the area, limited funding and restricted access to needed resources have constrained broader success. With several beekeepers already active locally, the project aims to strengthen learning through peer-to-peer exchange, enabling participants to share skills and collectively market honey through existing farmer groups.
Farmers will receive three days of training covering essential topics such as hive maintenance and inspection, hive-splitting, and harvest techniques. The sessions will combine technical instruction with hands-on practice to encourage long-term skill retention. Participants will also gain opportunities to connect with other engaged beekeepers, forming a support network for sharing resources and fostering cooperative efforts.
The grant places particular emphasis on providing access for groups that have historically faced social and economic barriers, including women and individuals from traditionally marginalized communities. By equipping these groups with training and hives, the project aims to strengthen their economic opportunities while contributing to broader community advancement through beekeeping.
