Digital Futures Lab Initiative
Description
This project seeks to establish a fully functional computer lab for students in grades six through twelve, benefiting more than three hundred learners. The lab will include eight desktop computers, two laptops with eight gigabytes of memory and two hundred fifty‑six gigabytes of solid‑state storage, a projector, an uninterruptible power supply, networking equipment, and improved electrical systems. Existing computers will be upgraded and repaired, and the building will receive ceiling and roof repairs and repainting to create a safe and durable learning space. These improvements will reduce the student‑to‑computer ratio to approximately one-to-one or two‑to‑one, allowing far more effective hands‑on learning.
The project directly responds to a community‑identified need for improved access to digital learning tools and stronger information and communication technology systems. Through consultations with teachers, students, parents, and school leadership, the community emphasized the importance of better technology access and practical digital skills instruction. Students will receive training in word processing, spreadsheets, basic coding, online research, digital communication, and cybersecurity awareness. Teachers will strengthen their skills through training in technology integration and lab management.
Community members will contribute to scheduling, supervision, and maintenance to support long‑term sustainability and local ownership. Overall, the project will strengthen digital literacy, improve teaching and learning quality, and help prepare students for higher education and future employment in a world increasingly shaped by technology.
