Healthy Kids, Strong Village
Description
The project aims to improve student health, safety, and well-being by creating a safe outdoor recreational space at a rural primary school that currently lacks suitable areas for physical activity. Because the grounds become uneven and muddy during seasonal rains, students have few opportunities for structured play during recess and physical education, and many children do not have access to safe spaces for recreation outside of school hours. The project’s goal is to support physical, mental, and social well-being through the development of a multi-use sports court and targeted health education.
The completed space will serve about 140 students and provide a dependable area for physical education classes, recess, and supervised community use. Community members will contribute through in-kind labor, technical support, and participation in a project committee responsible for planning, oversight, and long-term maintenance. The project also includes trainings for teachers and students on safe facility use, physical activity, and basic first aid. These activities will strengthen local knowledge and skills related to health, safety, and facility management while helping children and youth deepen their understanding of safe play, physical activity, and personal well-being.
Through these efforts, the project will support healthier behaviors among students and encourage cooperation, communication, and teamwork. By the end of the 2026–2027 school year, it is expected to increase student participation in organized physical activity and improve access to a safe recreational space, directly addressing a priority identified by the community.
