Creating Together Summer Camp for Everyone
Description
The “Creating Together Summer Camp for Everyone” is a four-day community-based program designed to promote participation, creativity, and social connection among approximately 15–20 children of different abilities. Implemented with local teachers, community members, and youth volunteers, it responds to a locally identified need for more recreational and social opportunities for children with special developmental and educational needs. The camp aims to provide a safe, supportive environment where all children can engage meaningfully in structured play, creative activities, and group experiences.
Before the camp begins, community partners and volunteers will take part in planning and training sessions on facilitation, communication strategies, sensory awareness, and activity adaptation. High school volunteers will strengthen practical skills to support meaningful participation for all children. Materials such as art supplies, building materials, and visual supports will be prepared through community contributions and donations.
The camp will run for four days with a theme-based structure centered on movement, building, creativity, and celebration. Activities will include collaborative games, art projects, music exploration, and group experiences, culminating in a shared community event. Expected outcomes include increased participation across activities, strengthened social interaction among children, and improved ability among youth volunteers and community members to support programs open to all. Success will be measured through attendance, engagement, and observational feedback, with sustainability supported through low-cost, replicable activities, local leadership, and continued use of materials and trained volunteers for future initiatives.
