Supporting English Literacy

school building
Project by Ryan M., Volunteer from Massachusetts
Kosovo Education

Description

This project seeks to strengthen English language literacy skills for students ages ten to fifteen by integrating physical learning materials into the classroom. Many students complete their schooling without essential reading and writing abilities, often due to limited resources and an overreliance on lecture-based instruction. With this grant, the school will provide leveled reading books, dictionaries, a printer, and resources for Teaching English as a Foreign Language to support a more engaging and interactive learning environment.

By introducing these materials, students will develop stronger comprehension, vocabulary, and independent learning habits that can be applied in future academic and personal opportunities. Access to high-quality resources encourages confidence, curiosity, and a lasting interest in reading. Teachers will participate in professional development to strengthen their ability to use the new materials effectively, helping ensure that the benefits extend well beyond the project’s initial setup.

Community members identified the need for improved learning tools and collaborated on solutions that are practical and sustainable. Their involvement helps ensure the project reflects local priorities and remains accessible to future students. The school will continue to maintain these materials through its regular budget, supporting long-term progress. By strengthening both student learning and teacher skills, this initiative promotes meaningful literacy growth and supports ongoing educational development.
