Description

The Girls Leading Our World with Code program responds to a locally identified need for more opportunities for girls to strengthen digital knowledge and practice leadership. Through conversations with students, teachers, and school staff, community members highlighted the importance of establishing safe and organized spaces where girls can build confidence, explore technology, and prepare for future education and career paths.

The program will guide thirteen girls in grades seven through nine through introductory website creation using Hypertext Markup Language and Cascading Style Sheets, combined with activities that strengthen teamwork and leadership. By the end of the camp, each participant will have developed a personal website, including layout, visual styling, and final deployment. At least three‑quarters of participants are expected to report increased confidence in their abilities. The program is led by Peace Corps Volunteers working closely with local educators to ensure it reflects community priorities and strengthens local skills.

To support long-term sustainability, the program includes the creation of a weekly after‑school club where participants can continue learning and practicing. Graduates of the camp will have the opportunity to return as Junior Instructors, offering guidance to future groups. Teachers and the community counterpart will gain the knowledge and resources needed to continue similar activities independently. Through this approach, the program aims to expand access to digital skills and support the development of confident young women prepared for future academic and employment opportunities.
