Statement from Peace Corps Director Carol Spahn on the Passing of President Jimmy Carter

WASHINGTON – President Jimmy Carter dedicated his life to public service. His unwavering support for the Peace Corps reflected his deep belief in the power of connecting across difference. This commitment to service became a cherished Carter family tradition, beginning with his mother, Lillian Carter, who at age 68 served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in India, and continuing through his grandson, Jason Carter, who served with the Peace Corps in South Africa.

Their collective impact exemplifies how one family can inspire generations of Americans to serve. Our hearts go out to the Carter family as they celebrate President Carter’s extraordinary life and legacy. May those he inspired continue to champion peace and human rights around the globe.
