Rosie K. Mauk Named Associate Director for Volunteer Recruitment and Selection
Toledo, Ohio Native to Aid Peace Corps in Volunteer Recruitment Efforts
WASHINGTON, D.C., September 21, 2007 - Peace Corps Director Ron Tschetter is proud to announce the appointment of Rosie K. Mauk as the new Associate Director for Volunteer Recruitment and Selection.
For over 30 years, Mauk has worked in the public and non-profit sectors directing volunteerism and community service initiatives nationwide. Most recently, Mauk served as the AmeriCorps Director overseeing all national programming, including the AmeriCorps State and National Program, VISTA, National Civilian Community Corps, and the Recruitment Department.
"Rosie has already proven herself as a devoted and successful advocate of public service and volunteerism," said Tschetter. "It is a privilege to have her on our team and we look forward to the talent and strategic skills that she will bring to the Peace Corps."
Mauk has also served on several boards and commissions related to volunteerism and community service, including Camp Fire USA, Americas Service Commission, and the Texas Commission on Volunteerism and National Service.
Mauk has received numerous awards as a result of her work in government and volunteer-focused non-profit organizations, including the President\'s Medal from Hobart & William Smith Colleges, the Pinnacle Award from the YWCA, the Award for Distinguished Service for Children from the Texas Pediatric Society, the Ft. Worth Woman of the Year and the Texas Governors Volunteer Award.
Born, raised and schooled in Toledo, Ohio, Mauk lived in Ft. Worth, Texas for 30 years. She is the mother of Bryan Mauk of Kansas City, Kan., Jennifer Mauk of Washington, D.C., and Becky Schelfhout of Evanston, Ill.
The Peace Corps is celebrating a 46-year legacy of service at home and abroad. Since 1961, more than 187,000 Volunteers have helped promote a better understanding between Americans and the people of the 139 countries where Volunteers have served. Peace Corps Volunteers must be U.S. citizens and at least 18 years of age. Peace Corps service is a 27-month commitment.
