Readout of Peace Corps CEO Thomas Peng’s Meeting with Prime Minister of Lesotho, Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane

Washington, D.C. – Peace Corps Chief Executive Officer Thomas Peng met with the Prime Minister of Lesotho, Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane today in Washington, D.C. Peace Corps CEO Peng and Prime Minister Matekane discussed a range of bilateral issues, including current Peace Corps Lesotho operations, the long-standing relationship between the Peace Corps and the Government of Lesotho, and Lesotho’s developmental goals. Underscoring the importance of health education, both emphasized that Volunteers will work side by side with local partners on COVID-19 prevention and control efforts.

Lesotho and the Peace Corps’ partnership began in 1967 and more than 2,600 Volunteers have served to date. Peace Corps Lesotho welcomed 15 Volunteers in September 2022 and will welcome another cohort to work in the health and education sectors in September 2023, which will expand the agency’s presence to all 10 districts of Lesotho.
