WASHINGTON, D.C., April 7, 2010 As part of President Barack Obamas efforts to make the federal government more transparent, the Peace Corps released its Open Government Plan on the agency\'s website. The plan details Peace Corps\' commitment to incorporate the core principles of transparency, participation, and collaboration into its work and operations.

I am proud that the Peace Corps has embraced President Obamas commitment to transparency and open government, said Peace Corps Director Aaron S. Williams. The Peace Corps is responsible for recruiting, training and supporting the thousands of Americans serving as volunteers around the world. The Peace Corps\' Open Government Plan will improve the communication channels between the agency and its applicants, Peace Corps volunteers, and the returned Peace Corps volunteer community.

"Peace Corps Open Government Plan can be found at www.peacecorps.gov/open. In addition to the plan, visitors to the webpage can easily access information about the Peace Corps and provide feedback on how the agency can improve transparency. The webpage will be regularly updated as Peace Corps receives additional public input and identifies new resources that can improve the publics knowledge of agency operations and increase agency accountability.

As Peace Corps approaches its 50th anniversary, its service legacy continues to promote peace and friendship around the world with 7,671 volunteers serving in 76 host countries. Historically, nearly 200,000 Americans have served with the Peace Corps to promote a better understanding between Americans and the people of 139 host countries. Peace Corps Volunteers must be U.S. citizens and at least 18 years of age. Peace Corps service is a 27-month commitment.
