Peace Corps Fellows/USA Partners with Kennesaw State University
WASHINGTON, D.C., July 2, 2007 The Peace Corps recently welcomed Kennesaw State University (KSU) as its newest Fellows/USA partner school, and its second in Georgia.
The aspirations of Kennesaw State, and their desire to promote cross-cultural learning serves as a great example for all collegiate programs, said Peace Corps Director Ron Tschetter. This new partnership will also resonate with Peace Corps Volunteers and their devotion to cultural understanding and continual learning.
After completing their service, returned Peace Corps Volunteers will apply to KSU through the regular admissions process. If admitted, they will enroll as Fellows in the Coles College of Business, and have the option of enrolling in either the Masters of Business Administration or the Masters of Accounting programs. The Fellows program will support KSUs new "Get Global" initiative to encourage students to contribute to the global society through international exchange. KSU has committed to providing a $2,000 stipend per semester and a tuition waiver for up to 36 credit hours to each Fellow.
An integral part of the Peace Corps Fellows/USA program is a substantive, degree-related internship in a high-need community. With their cross-cultural skills, adaptability, and desire to work for improvement, returned Volunteers are valuable assets at their universities. The program has established partnerships with more than 40 universities nationwide. As one of Peace Corps domestic programs, Fellows/USA enables returned Volunteers to pursue graduate degrees at a reduced cost while aiding underserved U.S. communities through internships. The Peace Corps is celebrating a 46-year legacy of service at home and abroad, and a 30-year high for Volunteers in the field. Since 1961, more than 187,000 Volunteers have helped promote a better understanding between Americans and the people of the 139 countries where Volunteers have served. Peace Corps Volunteers must be U.S. citizens and at least 18 years of age. Peace Corps service is a 27-month commitment.
