Peace Corps and National Geographic Society Celebrate Partnership

Washington, D.C., January 24, 2003 –Peace Corps Director Gaddi H. Vasquez and the National Geographic Society’s Executive Director Barbara Chow will announce on Monday, January 27, their collaborated efforts in creating the Peace Corps’ newest curriculum resource, a booklet entitled Building Bridges: A Peace Corps Classroom Guide to Cross-Cultural Understanding.

Peace Corps developed lesson plans incorporating real-life experiences of Peace Corps volunteers throughout the world teaching cultural awareness from Armenia to Zambia, Belize to Uganda. The goal is to help students better understand their own culture as well as understanding and respecting the cultures of others.

Building Bridges is available in print as a 48-page soft-cover volume and on Peace Corps’ Web site at www.peacecorps.gov.
