Peace Corps 42nd Anniversary

Washington, D.C. Area Observances of Peace Corps Day

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 27, 2003—Tomorrow, in celebration of the forty-second anniversary of the agency, thousands of former Peace Corps volunteers will share the experiences and insights they gained from their overseas service with communities across the country. This annual event commemorates the March 1, 1961, signing of the Executive Order that established the Peace Corps.

Peace Corps Director Gaddi H. Vasquez will be participating in a number of events in the Washington, DC area:

Event:
The Liberian and Zambian Ambassadors will join Director Vasquez for a school assembly to discuss the Peace Corps’ work in their countries.

Event:
An International Phone Call will be held. Students, returned Peace Corps volunteers, and the Peace Corps Director will speak with a currently serving volunteer in Honduras.

Event:
Director Vasquez will preside over a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new RPCV Career Center in Rosslyn, VA.
