Regional Literacy Specialist

Project description

The Ministry of Education (MOE), National Literacy Department in Guyana has requested the support of Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRVs) to serve as Regional Literacy Specialists. Community-based Regional Literacy Coordinators are in every region with responsibility for supporting and/or initiating literacy programs for school dropouts and to enhance adult literacy. In 2023, Peace Corps Guyana supported the National Literacy Department in developing the community-based program which will have a reach in the community and the schools. Recognizing that the regional support is needed to strengthen the implementation of the program, MOE has identified a need for support in the Regional Education Departments to help rollout the program, train teachers and support the coordinators on the literacy initiative.

The PCRVs will work at the Regional Departments to conduct needs assessments, which will involve site visits to various schools in the regions. The PCRVs will also co-deliver the national community-based reading program and co-deliver training sessions on the literacy program. The objective of the assignment is to collaborate with the Regional Literacy Coordinators to further develop the literacy skills of teachers in Guyana.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Guyana together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
